About
I'm James Richardson.
I've spent most of my career working somewhere around the boundary between operating systems, infrastructure, and software development.
I studied physics, started graduate work in high-energy physics, became a VAX cluster administrator along the way, and eventually discovered that I preferred computing to finishing a Ph.D.
These days I design and build infrastructure automation and lifecycle-management systems.
I've been using Unix and Emacs for long enough that I no longer remember learning either of them. I tend to prefer simple systems, plain text, small composable tools, and understanding how things work rather than hiding them behind another layer of abstraction.
About this site
jr0.dev is partly a technical notebook, partly a collection of experiments, and partly somewhere to write down things I might otherwise have to rediscover five years from now.
Posts are dated observations, experiments, and occasional trips down rabbit holes. Pages are longer-lived notes that may evolve over time.
Nothing here should be mistaken for revealed truth.
Question everything. Especially this.
